Fr Abanoub was born in Egypt in 1962 and migrated to Melbourne, Australia with his family in 1973. He obtained his VCE from Lyndale High School in 1979 and went on to RMIT to study Mathematics, majoring in Statistics and Operations Research. Fr Abanoub worked for six years in Marketing and Market Research for Australia Post and the ANZ Bank from 1985 to 1991. It was during this period that Fr Abanoub became very active in both Sunday School and Youth Ministry.  On March 28 1991 he was ordained a Priest by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III at St. Bishoy’s Monastery in Egypt. Fr Abanoub spent 40 days at St. Bishoy’s Monastery and returned to Australia to establish the Parish of St Mina and St Marina Church and St Anthony’s Coptic Orthodox College. Through ministerial service, Fr Abanoub has developed an interest in Counselling and Family Therapy and has pursued studies in the areas of Mental Illness and Counselling, including a Masters of Counselling at Monash University in 2008. He currently serves on two Boards, the SAC Academic Board and the Interfaith Studies Board at Charles Sturt University.
