John C. McDowell (BD hons Aberdeen, Ph.D. Cambridge) is Professor of Theology, Philosophy & Moral Theology. Prior to his appointment at SAC, he was formerly the Director of Research and Professor of Theology at the University of Divinity; Chair of Theology & Religion at the University of Newcastle, NSW; and Meldrum Lecturer in Systematic Theology at the University of Edinburgh. John has a range of research interests, but it was a love of the Church Fathers that led him to first study theology at the University of Aberdeen. A prolific writer and researcher, his recent book publications include: Theology and the Globalized Present: Feasting in the Presence of God (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2019); with Scott Kirkland, Eschatology: Christian Hope, Guides to Theology (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2018); and The Gospel According to Star Wars: Faith, Hope and the Force, 2nd edn.
