“The Digital (re)Creation of the Coptic Old Testament”

Tuesday, 2 April, 6:00pm – 7:00pm (refreshments from 5.30pm) City Campus, level 3 (285 La Trobe St.)

Since 2015, the Institute for Egyptology and Coptic Studies at the University of Göttingen, Germany, in close cooperation with many international scholars, have been working on using the advances in Digital Humanities to research and digitise manuscripts and fragments of the Coptic (Sahidic) Septuagint, for the purpose of creating an accessible, interactive electronic edition for the scholarly community. This project has been one of the most important of Late Antiquity and the foundation of the entirety of literature in the Coptic language, which is the last stage of the Ancient Egyptian language. This presentation will be of interest to Biblical scholars as well as those who are interested in Coptic and Late Antique studies.
