In the current Jubilee Year of Mercy, instituted by Pope Francis, it was fitting for His Holiness to be gifted with a book called The Life of Repentance and Purity. The book was written by the late Pope Shenouda III, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark. It has been translated from Arabic to English by Bishop Dr Suriel, Chancellor and Dean of St Athanasius College and Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Melbourne, with new references included by an editorial board.
Pope Francis received the Life of Repentance and Purity title from Bishop David, the Coptic Bishop of New York on April 6 while he was on a personal trip to Rome with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, also from New York. Bishop David presented the book, launched in the United States on March 12, as a collaboration between St Athanasius College (SAC) Press Melbourne and St Vladimir’s Seminary (SVS) Press New York. In The Life of Repentance and Purity, Pope Shenouda III invites all to grow in God’s love and mercy through a simple, practical and beautiful path of spiritual growth. The book is for people at any stage of the Christian journey seeking to grow in love. Through the process of repentance, humanity carves out a place for God to dwell more fully within their hearts and minds. The book, which is the first to be published in the new Coptic Studies Series, can be purchased at www.orthodoxbook.com.au
