Description

This unit will give students a comprehensive overview of the main Coptic archaeological sites in Egypt from the Late Antique period, looking at the development of church architecture, as well as both communal monasteries and semi-anchoritic settlements. Students will learn to analyse their characteristic components and their evolution in time. This unit will also consider how textual information pertaining to the various theologies present in late antique Egypt is reflected in art and architecture.
