Profile

Karel Innemée (1957) studied Egyptology, History of Art and Classical Archaeology at Leiden University. Karel was an assistant professor in several departments in the faculties of Humanities and Archaeology, teaching early Christian art and archaeology and Coptic art. He was a visiting professor for Coptic studies at the American University in Cairo in 2004. At present Karel is a research fellow at the University of Amsterdam an adjunct lecturer at SAC. The esteemed academic has conducted archaeological fieldwork in Egypt, Sudan, Jordan and Syria. Karel is also directing the research and conservation project of mural paintings at Deir al-Surian (Wadi Natrun, Egypt).
