Swansea University and UK Coptic Research and Resource Centre in a special series of seminars entitled Preservation of the Coptic Cultural Heritage

HowardHoward Middleton-Jones is the tutor for the Archaeology and Coptic Studies programs at the Department of Adult Continuing Education, Swansea University. Howard is a regular traveller to Egypt and presenter at Coptic symposiums. He is also the founder and director of the UK Coptic Research and Resource Centre (CRRC) established in March 2010. In addition to publishing several books on Egypt and many articles on the Coptic Period, Howard also runs a major Coptic Research website and is a regular contributor to the publication series ‘Christianity and Monasticism in Upper Egypt’. In 2007 Howard designed and developed the first database for the collation of data on Coptic sites throughout Egypt – The Coptic Multi Media Database Project. This is a continuing major project. His current work involves the collaboration of the Virtual Reconstruction of the Coptic Church at Qubbat el-hawa, Aswan, and he is in the process of writing a Coptic guide book for the general visitor to Egypt. The Guide book is intended to promote the interest and understanding of the Coptic Period in Egypt, which is sorely neglected at this moment in time. Preservation of the Coptic Cultural Heritage In this series of seminars , Howard Middleton-Jones will discuss methods and practice towards the promotion, preservation and conservation of Coptic sites of importance in Egypt, and how to promote an awareness of the Coptic cultural heritage Seminar 1: An introduction to the current situation regarding the state of Coptic sites in Egypt – why do we need conservation programs? Seminar 2: A proposal for a ‘Site Register’ of Coptic Churches and Monasteries under the Patriarch. Seminar 3: ‘The way forward’.
